About the role

Funding opportunity for AI research on benchmarking within Mercor’s AI research fund. Supports real-world evaluations, environments, long-horizon tasks, agentic capabilities, reasoning, post-training methods, and evaluation methodology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an Expression of Interest (EOI) of 1–3 pages outlining research question, background, project proposal, novelty, risks, team, proposed outcomes and timeline, and budget overview.
  • Submit a full proposal if invited.
  • Publish findings, open datasets or tools under an open license.
  • Adhere to budget tiers and provide detailed budget breakdowns.

Qualifications

  • Researchers at universities and non-profit research organizations, public benefit corporations and small startups (<20 people) that do not sell AI training data. Awards are made to the researcher’s institution.
  • Applicants must be based in the United States or the United Kingdom.
