About the role

Senior Data Platform Engineer to join Bitvavo's Storage and Messaging team within Platform Engineering. Build and evolve a self-service data platform enabling scalable ingestion, processing, and consumption across diverse databases and messaging systems, with a focus on security, compliance, and governance.

Responsibilities

  • Build a self-service platform that empowers teams to build at scale across diverse database and messaging technologies, enabling the seamless and reliable development of application and data products.
  • Continuously evolve our platform to support new data models and use cases, including structured and semi-structured data models, stream processing, and data governance at scale.
  • Build and maintain a secure, scalable, and compliant data infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code and automation.
  • Enable data ingestion, processing, and consumption at scale. All are offered entirely as self-service.
  • Mentor teammates by sharing technical knowledge, providing constructive feedback, and driving engineering excellence.

Qualifications

  • Experience with one or more programming languages. Golang and Python preferred; Java is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of platform engineering principles and distributed data systems.
  • Experience with SQL and No-SQL databases. Understanding of data warehousing and batch/stream processing is a plus.
  • Experience with distributed messaging systems such as Kafka, including cluster operations, topic/partition design, consumer group tuning, schema registry, and stream processing with Flink.
  • Fluency in using infrastructure as code tools (like Terraform) and container orchestration platforms (like Kubernetes) in a cloud-first environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to take ownership end-to-end.
  • High sense of ownership, accountability and engineering mindset.
