About the role

Senior backend engineer role focused on Identity for markets outside North America, delivering scalable, reliable Kotlin/Python services and driving technical direction, quality, and operations for Affirm’s international expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Owning and delivering quarterly goals for the team and guiding engineers through ambiguity
  • Collaborating with product, design, and analytics to ideate and make trade-off decisions
  • Proactively identifying and leading resolution of project/process/technology issues
  • Supporting operations and availability of team artifacts through metrics and on-call efforts
  • Setting and improving code review and design standards, and sharing them beyond the team
  • Developing talent through feedback, mentoring, and leading by example

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin
  • Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
  • Experience defining a technical plan for delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, extensible design
  • Proficiency in making significant changes in a large codebase and in creating tools/practices to enable safe changes
  • Demonstrated ownership of personal growth and proactive feedback seeking
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration across a global engineering team
