About the role

Backend software engineer focusing on identity validation (KYC) for Affirm’s products, working within the Identity Decisioning team to build scalable backend systems and collaborate across product, compliance, auth, and fraud teams.

Responsibilities

  • Break down larger projects into tasks and deliver in multiple phases while coordinating with tech lead and manager to ensure timely delivery
  • Collaborate with product management, design & analytics to ideate, articulate technical constraints, and make risk-aware trade-off decisions
  • Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in on-call activities
  • Contribute to team culture and growth through activities such as participation in the interview process

Qualifications

  • 1.5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems; proficiency in Python or Kotlin
  • Familiarity with distributed systems; experience with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
  • Ability to translate simple business problems into robust, well-tested, extensible solutions across multiple components
  • Comfort navigating large codebases, reviewing others' code, and giving constructive feedback
  • Demonstrated ownership of growth and proactive feedback-seeking behavior
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for global collaboration
  • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
