About the role

Backend software engineer role focused on building systems that validate consumer identity for Affirm products, complying with regulatory requirements (e.g., KYC), and collaborating with product, compliance, auth, fraud, and other engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Break down larger projects into tasks, deliver in phases, and ensure timely delivery with team support.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ideate, articulate constraints, and assess risks and trade-offs.
  • Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating as needed, and participating in on-call efforts.
  • Contribute to team community and growth through activities such as interview process participation.

Qualifications

  • 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer
  • Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems; proficiency in Python or Kotlin
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
  • Ability to translate simple business problems into multi-component solutions with clear, well-tested, extensible code
  • Experience navigating large codebases, debugging others' code, and providing code reviews
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for global collaboration
  • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
