About the role

Senior engineering manager role focusing on technical strategy, system ownership, and leadership for Affirm’s Marketplace Performance ads platform within the remote US context.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon and align with business-impacting projects.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs are understood and managed.
  • Act as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and operational processes.
  • Own team operations and availability, ensuring monitoring, on-call readiness, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting.
  • Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards and sharing them broadly.
  • Develop talent on the team through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
  • Extensive experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience developing consumer experiences using React.
  • 2+ years of experience in Ad Tech or related platforms.
  • Track record delivering major features or deprecating functionality via technical and execution plans; writes high-quality, understandable code.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to navigate from low-level details to large system architecture.
  • Proven ability to gather and iterate on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
