About the role

Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Identity Decisioning) focused on building and scaling Affirm's Identity platform outside North America, including KYC, user lifecycle management, and identity decisioning across regulatory environments. Remote role in Canada with eligibility only for residents of specified provinces.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale and align it with critical, business-impacting projects.
  • Collaborate across product management, design & analytics to ensure technical sustainability, manage risks and trade-offs.
  • Act as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating for technical solutions and operational processes.
  • Own team operations and availability with monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing and alerting to support on-call efforts.
  • Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards and promoting them through writing and tech talks.
  • Help develop talent on the team by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
  • Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
  • Experience delivering major features or deprecating existing functionality with a technical and execution plan; writes high quality code.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to move from low-level details to architecture of large systems.
  • Growth and impact trajectory showing ability to gather and iterate on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
