About the role
The Accounts Payable Lead is responsible for managing complex accounts payable processes, leading month-end close activities, mentoring AP Specialists, and driving procure-to-pay process improvements, with audit and compliance support.
Responsibilities
- Process complex 2-way and 3-way match invoices, ensuring accurate coding, proper approvals, and adherence to deadlines.
- Act as the primary point of contact for resolving non-routine vendor correspondence and payment discrepancies.
- Collaborate with purchasing and other department heads to address processing issues and handle urgent payment requests and escalations.
- Prepare and own AP-related month-end close schedules, reconciliations, and reports.
- Assist in monitoring and analyzing AP aging, GR/IR accounts, and other KPIs.
- Lead in gathering transaction samples and providing support for internal, external, and SOX audits.
- Ensure daily processes comply with accounting policies and internal controls to safeguard assets.
- Identify opportunities and assist in development and implementation of new procedures to enhance workflow and efficiency.
- Participate in special projects including system enhancements, automated invoice processing, and data validation.
- Provide training, guidance, and backup support to other AP team members; advise on non-routine accounting transactions.
Qualifications
- Experience in accounts payable with advanced processing and vendor management
- Knowledge of month-end close, reconciliations, and AP aging analysis
- Exposure to audits (internal, external, SOX) and internal controls
- Strong collaboration with cross-functional teams (purchasing, department heads)
- Mentoring/leadership capabilities for AP Specialists
- Process improvement and project participation skills
- Ability to handle non-routine accounting transactions and provide training
