About the role

Senior Backend Engineer at Scribe building backend features in a Django monolith, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability across core product areas (Agents, Docs, Growth, Optimize). Collaborative role with PMs, designers, and frontend engineers, with end-to-end ownership of a product area.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship backend features in our Django monolith, both established workflows and new greenfield projects
  • Improve performance and reliability: optimize services, database queries, endpoints, and caching layers across critical workflows
  • Collaborate with PMs, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver reliable experiences at scale
  • Contribute to technical discussions, balancing short-term delivery with longer-term architecture
  • Uphold strong engineering practices: code review, test coverage, observability

Qualifications

  • 5+ years building backend applications at high scale and availability
  • Extensive Python experience
  • Track record optimizing endpoint performance and database queries
  • Strong advocate for automated testing
  • Track record implementing engineering best practices
  • User-centric, empathetic, passionate about the work
