About the role

Retail Store Manager responsible for leading one Brooks brand store in Irvine, overseeing daily operations, team leadership, and customer experience to drive store performance, community engagement, merchandising, inventory health, and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and inspire a diverse retail team to deliver best-in-class customer experience and exceed business goals.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire store employees to ensure efficient operations and a high-performing team.
  • Foster an inclusive, trust-based culture grounded in Brooks values; maintain morale and address concerns proactively.
  • Build future talent through coaching, development opportunities, and performance feedback.
  • Oversee scheduling, succession planning, and staffing for peak periods, events, and long-term talent sustainability.
  • Oversee all daily store operations ensuring service, cleanliness, safety, compliance, and brand execution.
  • Manage store financials including revenue, margin, staffing, COGS, and operating expenses to achieve profitability.
  • Drive daily execution of front-of-house sales and back-of-house logistics.
  • Use retail systems and analytics to monitor KPIs, optimize inventory, and ensure accurate processes.
  • Maintain healthy inventory levels and product mix through replenishment, pricing, markdowns, SKU monitoring, and sell-through solutions.
  • Oversee inventory integrity through cycle counts and loss-prevention practices.
  • Manage store assets and equipment; handle store vehicle if applicable.
  • Partner with Retail Operations on long-term planning and seasonal buying for new stores.
  • Provide actionable field insights on customer behavior, product performance, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Retail Operations, Marketing, Visual Merchandising, Product, and other teams to meet shared goals.
  • Set and model premium, inclusive, and personalized customer service; lead by example on the sales floor.
  • Train and empower team to deliver biomechanical fit service, storytelling, and enthusiastic support for runners of all levels.
  • Use data and feedback to continually improve in-store journey and customer satisfaction metrics.
  • Uphold premium merchandising and visual storytelling standards; execute floor sets, launches, and campaigns with Retail Marketing and Visual Merchandising.
  • Support community events, educational activations, and partnerships with local groups.
  • Manage store-level marketing channels (social, email, event promotion) where applicable.
  • Support event-related retail operations (expos, pop-ups, truckloads) with travel as needed.
  • Support cross-departmental Brooks initiatives and broader company events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field; equivalent years of experience accepted
  • 3+ years retail experience including full store operations oversight
  • 1+ year leadership experience in retail (preferred)
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive operations, and manage a business independently
  • Strong knowledge of retail analytics (inventory management, turn, gross-margin, open to buy, merchandising, selling skills) (preferred)
  • Knowledge of performance athletic footwear/apparel/accessories and related technologies
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lead independently or with Retail Operations Manager
  • Ability to anticipate how decisions affect customers, partners, products, or other departments
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Keen attention to detail in planning and execution while seeing the big picture
  • Passion for Brooks’ sports activities a plus; empathy for runners to build loyalty
