About the role

Data Scientist focused on patent data within Google's Global Patents team, applying analytics and AI to support patent strategy, prosecution, transactions, and collaboration with external partners and patent offices.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the implementation of patent AI transformation initiatives focusing on patent prosecution and patent transaction use cases.
  • Apply patent and AI expertise to support patent engagement with the academic community and various patent offices on empirical patent and innovation studies and advise on AI implementations.
  • Work with public patent data, internal data and tool stack to create custom AI solutions to support patent portfolio strategy, development, quality reviews and other patent workflows.
  • Leverage patent expertise to develop internal patent transactions specific solutions to review third-party patent and licensing inquiries.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel, internal legal team members, dedicated patent specialist vendors to achieve scaled impact.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Engineering, Sciences, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience working with patent data in a corporate or law firm environment.
  • 7 years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis.
  • Experience working with a national patent offices or academic institutions studying patent strategy, policy, and innovation economics using data science and AI.
