About the role

Software Engineering Manager position within Google Search, responsible for technical leadership across multiple teams, guiding the transition of Search toward multimodal capabilities, and developing a high-performing engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Guide the technical direction to transition the core fabric of Search into an inherently multimodal platform, driving critical AI Mode (AIM) and AI Overviews (AIO) orchestration improvements.
  • Drive the organizational working methodology toward agent-driven architectures and spec-driven development. Have AI fluency and be prepared to discuss knowledge of AI tools in the hiring process.
  • Manage complex integrations with sibling infrastructure teams, product teams, and downstream AI partners. Leverage local leadership presence in Bangalore to unblock your team.
  • Foster rigorous engineering practices. Advocate system reliability, precise capacity planning, and latency optimizations.
  • Hire, mentor, and sponsor a high-performing engineering team. Establish clear operational standards, support career development, and actively advocate for team’s technical visibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript).
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience in a people management and 2 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience integrating generative AI tools or LLM interfaces into workflows.
