About the role

Data Center Technician II role within Google's Hardware Operations, responsible for installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting and maintaining hardware and server software, with hands-on physical work in data center environments.

Responsibilities

  • Unpack, rack, wire, and bring new physical hardware, servers, and network equipment online.
  • Diagnose hardware issues by following procedures to determine what’s broken and restore operation.
  • Safely manage sensitive storage hardware; track, securely erase, old hardware per security standards to prevent data risk.
  • Dismantle outdated equipment, salvage usable components, and recycle the rest.
  • Perform routine checks and physical maintenance on servers, networking equipment, and infrastructure to prevent problems.

Qualifications

  • Experience with diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer hardware and server hardware.
  • Experience with the assembly of mechanical or electrical systems, or performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment.
  • Experience with networking protocols.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 23kg of equipment and physical stamina for extended periods (bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, lifting).
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays and shift-based schedules.
