About the role

Google.Cloud virtualization-focused software engineer role designing and developing the virtualization subsystem (VMM/CHV) for Technical Infrastructure, with emphasis on hardware-level isolation, I/O performance, and Rust-based VMMs. Includes building tooling, automation, observability, and supporting broad production deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the development of the virtualization subsystem (VMM, CHV) at Google scale.
  • Drive the development of specialized tooling to support engineering practices within the virtualization and systems programming space.
  • Design and implement automation frameworks for build, CI/CD, and qualification testing specifically tailored for Rust-based VMMs and guest isolation layers.
  • Support the delivery of the virtualization layer across millions of production hosts, ensuring compatibility across product lines and hardware configurations.
  • Build out observability framework to provide transparency into VM health and I/O performance, supporting a more data-driven and efficient release process.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures and algorithms.
  • 2 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 2 years of coding experience in C or C++.
  • Experience with Operating Systems and Hypervisor.
