About the role

Senior Software Development Engineer III at Amazon Security responsible for leading design, development, and delivery of large-scale, secure software systems, guiding architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, and owning end-to-end software lifecycle from strategy to maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of multi-engineer software projects, owning the team's architectural direction and ensuring systems are well-designed, performant, and secure.
  • Collaborate with peers on related teams to define technology strategy for problems where the business direction is understood but the technical approach is not, balancing short-term needs against long-term extensibility.
  • Write exemplary code that demonstrates best practices in organization, clarity, error handling, and documentation, while driving adoption of engineering best practices across the team.
  • Mentor and coach engineers on the team and beyond, providing technical guidance and career development support.
  • Design and maintain operational excellence for systems, including alarms, telemetry, runbooks, and retrospective processes, while proactively identifying and resolving root causes of recurring issues.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
