About the role

Senior reporter to cover Chinese government policy and regulatory developments with a focus on merger control, antitrust reviews of large, publicly traded companies, and related areas such as foreign direct investment, outbound investment, and national security reviews. Based in Beijing or Shanghai with domestic and international travel; collaborates with global M&A team.

Responsibilities

  • Cover Chinese government policy and regulatory developments, focusing on merger control and antitrust reviews of large, publicly traded companies
  • Cover foreign direct investment, outbound investment, and national security review processes
  • Develop a strong contact book of domestic and international sources through calls and attending events (domestic and international)
  • Work closely with Dealreporter and PaRR publication reporters to break market-moving scoops and deliver exclusive insights
  • Collaborate with journalists across the globe to coordinate reporting and produce high-quality content
  • Conduct interviews in person and on calls, analyze complex issues, and produce in-depth analytical features
  • Meet deadlines under pressure while delivering analytical and commentary-driven work

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in financial or legal reporting, preferably covering mainland China
  • Fluency in Mandarin and ability to cultivate and maintain sources in Chinese
  • Excellent English writing skills with clear, accurate, and compelling copy
  • Sophisticated understanding of competition policy to explain significance of deal review developments
  • Ability to thrive under deadline pressure while delivering in-depth analytical and commentary-driven features
