About the role

Senior Backend Engineer focused on Lakehouse Infra, delivering reliable, scalable offline data access and supporting data infrastructure for ML, product, and financial engineering at Affirm. Remote US.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team; lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems and support delivery.
  • Collaborate with product management, design & analytics across ideation, technical constraints, and risk-aware trade-offs.
  • Proactively identify issues in projects, processes, technology, or business and lead in solving them.
  • Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating/monitoring metrics and participating in on-call efforts.
  • Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting/improving code review and design standards; share through writing and tech talks.
  • Develop talent on the team by providing feedback and leading by example.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
  • Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience scaling technologies such as Iceberg, Flink, Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Snowflake, and Terraform.
  • Experience defining a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or system component with elegant, simple, extensible design.
  • Proficient at making significant changes in a large code base with tools/practices to do so safely.
  • Demonstrated ownership of growth, seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
