About the role

Backend software engineer role on the Batch Developer Experience team focused on building tools and systems to streamline batch workflows, testing, and reliability for Affirm’s critical batch workloads.

Responsibilities

  • Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver in multiple phases, and collaborate to ensure timely delivery.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ideate, articulate technical constraints, and make risk-aware trade-off decisions.
  • Create and monitor metrics, escalate when needed, and support on-call efforts to keep artifacts available.
  • Contribute to team community and growth through activities such as participation in the interview process.

Qualifications

  • Total of 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems; proficient in Python or Kotlin.
  • Familiarity with building blocks of distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Ability to translate simple problems into multi-component solutions with clear, well-tested, extensible code.
  • Comfortable navigating a large codebase, debugging others’ code, and providing feedback via code reviews.
  • Demonstrated ownership of growth and proactive seeking of feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
