About the role

Senior Backend Engineer focusing on identity data, responsible for high-availability, low-latency systems that onboard consumers and manage authentication/verification journeys across Affirm’s product surfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Owning and delivering quarterly goals for the team and guiding engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
  • Collaborating with product management, design, and analytics to support the product lifecycle, ideation, and decision-making with technical constraints and risk considerations.
  • Proactively identifying and leading efforts to resolve project, process, technology, or business issues.
  • Supporting operations and availability of team artifacts through metrics, escalation, and on-call efforts.
  • Fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting/improving code review and design standards, and evangelizing them beyond the team via writing and tech talks.
  • Helping develop talent on the team through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
  • Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience defining a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, extensible design.
  • Ability to make significant changes in a large codebase and develop tools/practices to enable safe changes.
  • Demonstrated ownership of personal growth with proactive feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
