About the role

Senior backend engineer focused on identity data, onboarding, authentication and verification systems at Affirm. Responsible for delivering high-availability, low-latency systems on critical product paths, leading teams, collaborating with cross-functional partners, and driving quality and ownership across the team.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and ensuring that everyone is supported during delivery.
  • Collaborate with product management, design & analytics to ideate, articulate technical constraints, and partner on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs.
  • Proactively identify and solve project, process, technology or business issues.
  • Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting on-call efforts.
  • Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them beyond the team through writing and tech talks.
  • Help develop talent on the team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
  • Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
  • Experience defining a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design.
  • Writes high quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
  • Proficient at making significant changes in a large code base, with tools and practices to do so safely.
  • Experience taking ownership of personal growth and seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
