About the role

Backend-focused Software Engineer II role within Affirm's Purchasing Power organization, working on underwriting platform features for partnered merchants and users across multiple interfaces (Affirm Card, e-commerce sites, and the Affirm app). Remote-friendly role open to specific Canadian provinces.

Responsibilities

  • Break down larger projects into tasks, deliver in phases, and collaborate to ensure timely delivery.
  • Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics, and articulating technical constraints.
  • Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in on-call efforts.
  • Contribute to team community through growth and development activities such as interview participation.

Qualifications

  • Total of 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems; proficient in Python or Kotlin.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Ability to translate simple problems into multi-component solutions and write clear, well-tested, extensible code.
  • Comfort with navigating large code bases, debugging others' code, and providing feedback via code reviews.
  • Demonstrated ownership of growth and proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
