About the role

Google Hardware Operations role focused on installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining data center hardware and server software, with emphasis on physical deployment, network components, and cross-stakeholder collaboration to ensure reliable, repeatable deployments across Google's data center network.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and repair advanced server hardware and server software.
  • Manage and set up complex network components, including routers, bridges, and switches.
  • Lead or contribute to local installation projects, create contingency plans, and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Ensure mission goals and deployments are reliably executed and repeatable across Google's global data center network.
  • Manage equipment movement and installation to uphold data center quality and operational uptime.

Qualifications

  • Experience with diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer hardware and server hardware and experience with networking protocols.
  • Experience with assembly of mechanical or electrical systems, or performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required.
  • Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and physical stamina for extended periods (bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling).
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in maintenance and monitoring of server systems.
  • 2 years of experience in troubleshooting hardware and network issues using Linux tools (e.g., LPIC-1, CCNA).
  • Proven experience in maintenance of server and storage systems.
  • Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
