About the role

Google Labs software engineering role focusing on incubating early-stage AI/ML initiatives, with emphasis on agile prototyping, exploratory tests, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build Minimum Viable Tests (MVTs) and functional prototypes to rapidly de-risk novel AI agent concepts. Execute targeted technical spikes to prove core feasibility and overcome critical architectural hurdles within strict, 4-week exploratory sprints.
  • Apply deep expertise in agentic systems, including planning, memory, context management, tool-use, and loops, to rapidly prototype and evaluate novel solutions for design, coding and product building.
  • Operate with a "rolled-up mindset" by seamlessly blending the responsibilities of Software Engineering, Product Management, Research, Data Science and UX Research.
  • Prioritize learning and prototyping over perfect code. Design clever, high-speed tests to validate User Value, Strategic Value, and Feasibility, generating raw signal before committing to heavy infrastructure.
  • Analyze early technical and user signals to evaluate project viability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with one or more of the following: Speech/audio, reinforcement learning, ML infrastructure, or specialization in another ML field.
  • 3 years of experience with end-to-end Machine Learning (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging).
