About the role

Senior Systems Engineer role at AWS focusing on building and operating large-scale cloud infrastructure, leading design and implementation, and driving operational excellence with a customer-focused, collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

  • Lead team design, scoping, and prioritization discussions and drive implementation reviews (designs, code, operational readiness, deployment plans, system changes, etc.).
  • Identify and mitigate availability, performance, security, stability, and maintainability issues; propose short- and long-term mitigations.
  • Utilize Linux expertise to troubleshoot, implement fixes, keep software up-to-date, and provide data/metrics for capacity and efficiency management.
  • Automate team processes to meet organizational goals and scale operations; create automation that simplifies workloads.
  • Drive SOP, documentation, and runbook creation; promote best practices; recruit and mentor team members.
  • Communicate clearly and collaborate with others to deliver results; operate as a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity and change.
  • Customer-obsessed mindset: understand customer pain points and deliver complete resolutions.
  • Lead on-call / after-hours support with emphasis on reducing pain through Operational Excellence practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Linux systems administration
  • Experience with a scripting language such as PowerShell, Python, Bash, Perl, Ruby or similar
  • Experience in network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP)
  • Experience in Systems engineering, site reliability engineering, building and operating systems at scale
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools including Continuous Integration / Deployment, Puppet, Docker, Kubernetes, Chef etc.
  • Experience with logging and monitoring tools, such as: AWS CloudWatch, Datadog, New Relic and Splunk
  • Experience in deploying identity and access management systems
