About the role

Senior Industrial Designer embedded in the mechanical design process to develop and refine surfaced geometry of robot exterior parts, translate design direction into production-ready Class A surfaces, and define cosmetic finishes and CMF decisions that endure tooling and manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Surfacing & Production CAD: Own Class A surface development for injection molded exterior parts, from concept geometry or sketches to production-intent 3D models; collaborate with Design Engineers to ensure DFM-compliant surfaced geometry; maintain/refine surface models through tooling development; support 2D cosmetic drawing callouts (surface finish, texture zones, parting line locations, appearance-critical areas)
  • Cosmetic Finish & CMF: Define and document cosmetic finish specs for molded and machined parts; develop and manage CMF documentation (material callouts, color standards, finish samples, approval criteria) for production; source/evaluate finish and texture options with tooling vendors and surface finish suppliers; maintain cosmetic appearance standards and support first article cosmetic inspection criteria
  • Cross-Functional Design Support: Evaluate cosmetic samples/prototypes against intent; prepare visual references, annotated models, finish sample boards for design reviews; assist in evaluating and selecting materials/finishes for new components during NPI; maintain a coherent product language across the robot exterior

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a foreign equivalent
  • Experience with design & innovation and R&D
  • Experience in management of engineering design projects
  • Experience using MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software
  • 8+ years of design & innovation, R&D work experience
