About the role

Senior Software Development Engineer role in Amazon's CloudTune Scaling Efficiency team focused on designing and delivering distributed systems to power capacity decisions for thousands of EC2-based services at scale. Combines infrastructure and data work, with emphasis on large-scale data processing, workflow orchestration, automation, and platform reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end design, implementation, and operation of distributed systems that serve Amazon-scale workloads.
  • Lead technical strategy and architecture for your area, making tradeoffs between speed of delivery and long-term platform health.
  • Build services that are generic, composable, and designed for reuse, reducing duplication and accelerating the pace of delivery across the organization.
  • Drive operational excellence across your systems, including monitoring, alarming, incident response, and on-call ownership.
  • Partner with scientists, data engineers, and capacity managers to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual toil and close automation gaps through better tooling, self-service interfaces, and data-driven guardrails.
  • Influence engineering culture through design reviews, code reviews, technical mentorship, and contributions to team-wide best practices.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
