About the role
Senior role in Amazon's Last Mile Simulations and Analytics Engineering team focused on building digital twins, discrete event simulations, and physics-based models to optimize Last Mile delivery operations across networks.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of the simulation data science solutions to perform system of systems discrete event simulations for significantly complex operational processes using DES tools (e.g., FlexSim, Demo 3D, AnyLogic) or similar packages
- Lead strategic modeling and simulation research projects to drive process design decisions
- Establish best practices in simulation science and develop discrete event simulations faster with higher standards
- Tackle intrinsically hard process flow simulation problems with significant business impact or risk
- Deliver artifacts that set the standard in the organization for process flow control algorithms, validation, implementations, and technical documentation using simulations
- Balance cross-organization trade-offs and influence/negotiate with internal and external partners on multiple simulation projects
- Provide simulation data and measurements to influence business strategy; document approach, outcomes, recommendations, and arguments
- Lead and participate in reviews of simulation research solutions; communicate complex concepts clearly
- Mentor and develop others within the simulation data science community on trends and best practices
- Use advanced statistical/simulation tools and develop code (Python or other OO language) for data analysis, simulation, and modeling algorithms
- Coordinate simulation efforts between internal teams and outside vendors to develop optimal network solutions (equipment specs, material flow control, process design, site layout)
- Deliver results according to project schedules and quality standards
Qualifications
- 3+ years of investigating feasibility of applying scientific principles to business problems and products
- PhD, or Master's degree with 5+ years of quantitative field research experience
- Experience with big data technologies such as AWS, Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive etc.
