About the role

PhD students across multiple research domains invited to intern as Applied Scientists. Opportunity to design end-to-end AI/ML systems, collaborate with Amazon scientists, publish work, and potentially receive a return offer. Internship length 3–6 months with multiple start dates, located in Romania (EMEA region), no remote internships.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design and development of end-to-end systems.
  • Write technical white papers, create roadmaps and drive production level projects.
  • Work closely with Amazon scientists and other science interns to develop solutions and deploy them into production.
  • Design new algorithms, models, or other technical solutions while experiencing Amazon's customer-focused culture.
  • Scope projects with mentor, then own research and implementation end-to-end.
  • Build graph-based ML models and knowledge graphs for detecting/remediating access violations; develop behavioral pattern clustering and automated reasoning systems for security operations; research multimodal and computer vision approaches on product catalog data to improve safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Are enrolled in a PhD in computer science, machine learning, engineering, or related fields
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
  • Speak, write, and read fluently in English
