About the role

Hands-on System Development Manager to lead System Development and Support Engineering teams within Fulfillment Optimization (FO). Own reliability, on-call health, and automation to reduce operational load across multiple locations/time zones, and grow the engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, hire, and develop a team of System Development and Support Engineers across multiple locations and time zones. Manage their performance and growth at every level.
  • Own the operational health of your team's services — availability, latency, on-call, and incident response — and hold a high bar for operational excellence.
  • Drive automation and tooling that reduces manual effort and eliminates recurring operational load, and set the technical direction for how your team builds it.
  • Own root-cause analysis and error correction. Turn incidents into durable systemic fixes rather than repeat work.
  • Define your team's roadmap by working backward from customer and business problems, and partner with engineering and business stakeholders to prioritize competing demands.
  • Stay close to the technical details — review designs, remove blockers, and make sound build-versus-buy and reliability trade-offs.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of systems engineering and operations leadership for an Internet service or leading edge IT organization
  • 5+ years of managing system or software development teams experience
  • 7+ years of relevant hands-on systems engineering and administrative work in networking, storage systems, operating systems
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience in agile software development methodology
