About the role

The role focuses on developing libraries and tooling for observability and performance across Benchling's stack, aiming to improve customer experience and scalability.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement internal libraries and tooling that adhere to industry best practices in Observability.
  • Identify, propose, and implement performance improvements across the technology stack.
  • Build resources to understand performance bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address performance issues impacting customers.
  • Contribute to overall customer experience by identifying and resolving performance-related challenges.
  • Own projects end-to-end, from initial design, to prototype, to large-scale rollout.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing within the team and across engineering to foster a culture of continuous performance improvement.

Qualifications

  • Have 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Build software with a product-first approach, shipping code quickly with real-world impact.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to iterate on feedback.
  • Enjoy ownership and building key pieces of product while collaborating with other teams.
  • Experience with modern Observability tools and practices.
  • Interest in learning about life science; prior knowledge not required, desire to learn is a must.
