About the role

Backend-focused staff software engineer role at Databricks designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems and SaaS platform services using Scala/Java, with exposure to data pipelines, cloud APIs, and multi-cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • work closely with team and product management to prioritize, design, implement, test, and operate micro-services for the Databricks platform and product
  • write software in Scala/Java
  • build data pipelines (Apache Spark™, Apache Kafka)
  • integrate with third-party applications
  • interact with cloud APIs (AWS, Azure, CloudFormation, Terraform)
  • contribute to various teams and domains such as Data Science and Machine Learning Infrastructure, Compute Fabric, Data Plane Storage, Enterprise Platform, Observability, Service Platform, Core Infra
  • help architect, develop, deploy, and operate large-scale distributed systems
  • ensure security and reliability of services at scale

Qualifications

  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, or a related field
  • 10+ years of production level experience in Java, Scala, C++, or similar language
  • experience architecting, developing, deploying, and operating large scale distributed systems
  • experience with SaaS platforms or Service-Oriented Architectures
  • good knowledge of SQL
  • experience with software security and systems handling sensitive data
  • experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes)
