About the role

Staff Backend Engineer role at Monzo in Barcelona, focusing on product backend development within one of Monzo's collectives. Hybrid work model with 3 days in the office; base salary plus benefits and potential equity/stock options.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate across disciplines to test hypotheses and make a difference to customers.
  • Build and support a particular part of Monzo within a squad and collective (Money, Borrowing, Fincrime, Customer Operations, Platform, Personal Banking & Business Banking).
  • Work with product managers, marketers, researchers, designers, engineers, data analysts and more to deliver backend solutions.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience working on the backend of a technology product.
  • Product mindset with focus on customer outcomes and data-informed decisions.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and distributed systems.
  • Experience with strongly-typed languages (Go, Java, C, Scala, etc.).
