About the role

Software Engineer, Billing at Cursor (SpaceXSI context) responsible for evolving billing systems across usage metering, subscriptions, payments, and ledger, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and observability. Deeply technical individual contributor role focused on billing correctness and scale, not finance ops or backend generalist work.

Responsibilities

  • Implement usage and billing systems changes end-to-end, from UI updates and edge usage events to invoiced amounts in Stripe, including metering pipeline, aggregation logic, entitlement enforcement, and ledger.
  • Evolve the ledger system as the source of truth for customer balances, credits, overages, and adjustments with formal correctness guarantees.
  • Integrate deeply with Stripe (subscriptions, usage records, invoices, webhooks) including mid-cycle plan changes, prorations, and failed payment recovery.
  • Build billing APIs and internal tooling for product, finance, and customer success to query customer state, issue credits, and investigate billing anomalies.
  • Improve observability across the billing pipeline (metering lag, reconciliation discrepancies, invoice accuracy) for rapid debugging of billing regressions.
  • Partner with product, infrastructure, and finance teams to ship new pricing models with confidence and minimal operational risk.
  • Own usage & limits across product family, payments (Stripe + daily jobs), grants & promotions, ledger, and internal data insights; be a technical authority on billing correctness and scale.
  • Revenue accuracy is part of the job; aim for systems where billing is boring and minimizes manual reconciliation.

Qualifications

  • Shipped a usage-based billing system in production with opinions on metering architecture, idempotency, and exactly-once semantics.
  • Deep integration experience with Stripe, understanding its data model and experience with erroring webhooks.
  • Built or maintained a financial ledger and understands its necessity.
  • Care for correctness and ensuring customers’ invoices don’t require manual review.
  • Ability to balance fast-moving development with preserving revenue and trust.
  • Comfort shipping features end-to-end—from infrastructure scaling to UI component tweaks.
