About the role

Senior Software Engineer role on the Elasticsearch Analytic Engine team, focusing on new analytics capabilities and the ES|QL compute engine within Elasticsearch. Remote, globally distributed team; design and implementation of features, bug fixes, and collaboration across UI and API teams.

Responsibilities

  • Build data-intensive new features and fix intriguing bugs in Elasticsearch
  • Research and implement data structures and algorithms for new functionality or enhancements
  • Work with globally distributed teams including UI and API teams
  • Triage and handle issues and PRs from community members
  • Write idiomatic modern Java

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in core Java and standard library, data structures and concurrency; familiarity with newer features like lambdas
  • Experience with software systems engineering
  • Strong interest in optimizing data structures and algorithms
  • Ability to work autonomously and guide projects end-to-end, including technical design and cross-team collaboration
  • Experience collaborating asynchronously and across functions/teams
  • Experience with data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debugging, and optimization while owning outcomes
  • Ability to transition between projects, codebases, or teams based on priorities
  • Ability to drive decisions and results in a distributed team via asynchronous, direct, transparent communication
