About the role

Senior software engineer role focusing on building and extending network software infrastructure that handles traffic through Cloudflare's global network, from kernel level to network dataplane and interconnects. Hybrid role with on-call responsibilities within a Run What You Build model.

Responsibilities

  • Build and extend software systems carrying traffic on critical paths of Cloudflare's network (host server Linux kernel to network hardware dataplane to adjacent network interconnect)
  • Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle: design, documentation, coding, automated testing, deployment planning, monitoring production systems
  • Collaborate with engineers across operations and customer-facing product teams to ensure capabilities meet business needs
  • Own and participate in on-call duties as part of operational responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Systems-level programming experience in Go, Python, Rust, C, or C++
  • Solid grasp of BGP and internet routing
  • Willingness to explore new technologies and learn quickly
  • Experience implementing, deploying, and debugging mission-critical distributed systems
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Willingness to adopt and integrate AI tools into engineering workflow
