About the role

Software Engineer on the Argo team focused on enabling more reliable network connectivity across Cloudflare’s products, contributing to the Argo-based platform and collaborating with multiple engineering teams, network engineering, and SRE.

Responsibilities

  • Own a very important aspect of Cloudflare's systems: enable more reliable network connectivity for Cloudflare’s products than the Internet itself provides.
  • Be a key technical contributor to the cutting edge network software infrastructure used by products such as CDN, Spectrum, Magic Transit, Stream, Workers, Workers AI, R2, WARP, and more.
  • Work closely with various Engineering teams to translate requirements into new platform capabilities; partner with Network Engineering and SRE to optimize use of Cloudflare's edge network.
  • Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle: design and documentation, coding, automated testing, planning, managing, and monitoring production deployments.
  • Use a wide range of technologies and languages (Rust, Go, Linux networking, ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, Grafana, Kubernetes, and more).
  • Utilize AI-powered tools to analyze and extend codebases, introspect production systems/datasets, and accelerate problem-solving.
  • Contribute to Run What You Build model and participate in on-call rotation as part of operational responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Systems-level programming experience in Go, Rust, C, or C++ (Rust strongly used at Cloudflare; willingness to learn it encouraged).
  • Solid grasp of networking protocols in Layers 3 and 4 of the OSI model.
  • Knowledge of HTTP, TLS, and CDN networks.
  • Experience in implementing secure and highly-available distributed systems.
  • Strong ability to debug issues in complex systems.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Experience/interest in HTTP networking and VPN technologies.
  • Experience/interest in network performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Willingness to adopt and integrate AI tools and systems into engineering workflow.
