About the role

Senior AI-focused software engineer building AI-powered features and systems (RAG, agentic workflows, LLM features) for Pendo’s PX platform. Role spans prototype to production with emphasis on technical judgment, model evaluation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Applied AI systems: Design and build AI systems including RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, and LLM-powered features. Take work from prototype through production and ensure it can hold up in real customer environments.
  • Technical decision-making: Make principled decisions on prompts, fine-tuning, and tool usage; communicate tradeoffs clearly.
  • Model evaluation: Instrument and evaluate model outputs; implement guardrails for production use.
  • Productionize AI ownership: Deploy, monitor, optimize latency, cost, and reliability at scale; ensure observability and efficiency.
  • Full-stack product shipping: Work across backend and frontend to deliver AI-powered experiences to users.
  • Product partnership: Collaborate with product and design to frame problems and guide what should be built.
  • Research and tooling awareness: Stay current on transformers, diffusion, orchestration frameworks, and agent patterns; apply advances thoughtfully.

Qualifications

  • Deep hands-on experience building and shipping LLM-powered systems, including retrieval-augmented generation, tool use, and agent orchestration frameworks.
  • Strong technical depth in system design, architecture selection, failure mode identification, and product lifecycle tradeoffs.
  • Experience owning technical quality beyond individual features, including standards, reviews, and shared tooling/infrastructure improvements.
  • Strong model evaluation skills, including designing evaluation suites, bias-variance analysis, and hallucination mitigation.
  • Solid understanding of modern model architectures (transformers, diffusion models) and judicious application.
  • Production AI experience with model deployment, monitoring pipelines, latency/cost/reliability optimization in live environments.
  • Strong full-stack fundamentals to ship complete, user-facing AI products across backend and frontend.
  • Exceptional communication skills to explain complex technical decisions to engineers, PMs, and executives.
  • Demonstrated product thinking to assess what should be built, not just how to build it.
