About the role

Staff Analytics Engineer to help shape how Borrowing builds and uses data at scale. Lead data architecture, data products, feature stores, and analytics engineering infrastructure to support Monzo’s growing Borrowing domain.

Responsibilities

  • Architecting Borrowing’s data layer at scale. Partnering across Analytics Engineering, Product, Engineering, Credit, and Data Platform to structure 1,700+ models across 12+ products; set shared patterns for trusted, scalable data products.
  • Designing and governing data products. Define production-grade datasets with ownership, SLAs, documentation, and interfaces; ensure consumability by analytics, ML, decisioning, and regulatory teams.
  • Building feature stores and reusable analytical assets. Identify cross-product signals to model once and power multiple consumers; design versioned feature layers for models, dashboards, and decisions.
  • Scaling analytics engineering infrastructure. Shape tooling, patterns, and developer experience for a large data organisation; influence data architecture and ingestion, streaming, and schema contracts.
  • Driving cross-product data consistency. Define shared conventions to enable coherent, comparable data across geographies and products.
  • Being a senior technical partner for Borrowing’s data estate. Collaborate with backend engineers, product managers, credit teams, and leadership on measurement strategy and future directions.
  • Leading through influence and leverage. Shape domain data patterns and unblock architectural decisions to raise the bar across teams.

Qualifications

  • You’ve designed data architectures that span multiple products or domains and scale coherently.
  • You’ve built data products with governance, documentation, versioning, discoverability, and trust; defined SLAs, contracts, interfaces, or ownership models.
  • Fluency with analytics engineering systems and infrastructure (dbt at scale, BigQuery or equivalent, CI/CD for data, testing frameworks, orchestration).
  • Experience designing reusable feature layers for ML pipelines, dashboards, decisioning engines, and regulatory reporting; understanding trade-offs of freshness, cost, granularity, correctness, and usability.
  • Comfortable at the platform boundary; ability to discuss ingestion patterns, streaming vs. batch, schema evolution, and infrastructure costs with Data Platform engineers.
  • Ability to connect technical choices to business outcomes; understanding how product, credit, engineering, and operational teams use data to drive decisions.
  • Leadership through influence; not required to manage people directly but to raise the standard and enable 30+ colleagues to be more effective.
  • Strong communication across audiences; explain data architecture to engineers and senior leadership with precision.
  • Interest or enthusiasm for credit products, including risk, affordability, regulatory constraints, and multi-product dynamics.
