About the role

Energetic and driven Legal Counsel to support Jane Street's China business development in Hong Kong, focusing on drafting, reviewing and negotiating trading-related contracts for Asia with emphasis on China; provides legal advice across teams and liaises with external counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate trading-related contracts (derivatives documents, commodities purchase agreements, broker agreements, terms of business, NDAs and financing agreements).
  • Respond to inquiries regarding existing and new contracts.
  • Provide direct legal support to the desk on new business initiatives.
  • Liaise with external counsel and other external advisers.
  • Negotiate with counterparties in China and other jurisdictions.
  • Advise colleagues across office locations worldwide as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3-8 years of PQE on a corporate and/or finance team (e.g., derivatives, credit, M&A) within leading law firms or financial institutions
  • Experience with drafting and negotiating contracts
  • Excellent written and verbal English and Mandarin (native Mandarin, fluent English)
  • Able to stay organized with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy; able to handle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated and flexible team player; professional demeanor and strong negotiation skills
  • Collaborative with clear articulation of approach, analysis and conclusions
  • Comfortable working on problems without clean, definitive answers
