About the role

Leadership role for a growing team of Linux Engineers, focused on maintaining and improving the platform powering Jane Street's production trading systems. Combines hands-on engineering with people, project, and program management to deliver service and partnership outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of Linux Engineers (engineers, admins, and programmers).
  • Establish a strong understanding of Jane Street's technical environment and contribute as an individual contributor as needed.
  • Manage and deliver on projects and programs, including large-scale coordination and communication.
  • Foster firm-wide partnerships and collaborations.
  • Plan short- and long-term initiatives and ensure service delivery.
  • Hire, mentor, and support team members to thrive in a high-performance environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other technical discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Clear and concise communication skills for one-on-one and group discussions
  • Proven track record supporting individuals and helping teams thrive
  • Experience building and growing firm-wide partnerships
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills (technical, process, people)
  • Deep knowledge of operating system fundamentals, especially Linux
  • Fluency with Unix command line and shell scripting
  • Practical experience with modern Linux systems and systems programming concepts
  • Basic understanding of network protocols
  • Programming experience in any language

Benefits

  • Base salary $200,000 - $300,000. Base salary is part of total compensation including an annual discretionary bonus.
