About the role

We are looking for a Data Engineer to turn messy, real-world datasets into reliable inputs for research and trading. You’ll build pipelines to ingest and transform external data, work closely with trading desks, and shape the systems you use daily. This is a collaborative role where you own your work end-to-end, combining engineering, data analysis, and product sense to develop deep expertise in your data domains.

Responsibilities

  • Identify Jane Street's data needs and collaborate with trading desks to evaluate and source datasets
  • Build pipelines that ingest and transform external data
  • Determine data representations and meanings, ensuring clean, well-structured data
  • Develop and use internal tools and software; shape the systems you rely on daily
  • Own projects from end-to-end and develop deep domain expertise to guide future work

Qualifications

  • Strong programming skills in any language (Python a plus)
  • Proficiency with SQL or DataFrame libraries like pandas or Polars
  • Intellectual curiosity and meticulous approach to data investigation
  • Clear and concise communication
  • Fluency in English required
