About the role

Experienced Data Centre Engineer responsible for designing, building, scaling, and maintaining Jane Street’s regional data and colocation centres, with collaboration across Network, Server, Facilities Engineering, Market Data and Trading teams to optimize data environments and prevent issues.

Responsibilities

  • Design plans for new equipment deployments using data centre best practices
  • Coordinate logistical tasks across locations, including procurement, shipping, moving and inventory of equipment, cabling and parts
  • Install and configure server OS in a PXE environment (fundamental Linux knowledge required to deploy network equipment)
  • Install, cable, configure and troubleshoot different types of network and server equipment
  • Ensure that all data centres uphold high standards in security, organisation, documentation, safety, cleanliness and supply management

Qualifications

  • Ideally 5+ years of experience in a data centre environment with strong understanding of data centre best practices, cabling methodology and vendor management
  • Self-starter mindset; takes initiative and seeks continuous improvement
  • Clear communicator with excellent people and project management skills
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals; switching, routing, and troubleshooting Layer 2/3 connectivity
  • Proficiency in a Linux environment (Bash or Python scripting a plus)
  • Experience deploying server and network hardware (e.g., Dell, Cisco, Arista, Ciena, Corning, Ortronics)
  • Ability to design, deploy, test and troubleshoot copper and fibre cabling
  • Willingness to travel 2-4 weeks per year and work evenings/weekends; flexible scheduling negotiable
  • Fluent in English; preference for Cantonese, Mandarin or Japanese speakers
