About the role

Foundational technical leader responsible for architecture, quality, and engineering standards across the ecommerce platform powering multiple brands; leads a small team delivering fulfillment and order management systems and drives AI-powered innovation to improve throughput and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Spearshead AI technical innovation by designing AI and agentic workflows to empower engineering teams and improve delivery throughput, quality, and reliability.
  • Design, develop, and maintain fulfillment systems (warehouse management, order management, etc.) powering the ecommerce platform with scalability and maintainability.
  • Lead a small team of developers, providing technical direction and accountability.
  • Enable integration with fulfillment interfaces through clean API documentation, observability, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and operations to ensure timely delivery of projects.
  • Design and implement agentic quality gates for rapid iteration with a safety net.
  • Mentor engineers across levels, guiding software development best practices.
  • Represent Backcountry's core values through technical decisions and team interactions.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in software development with a strong background in ecommerce fulfillment (order management and warehouse management).
  • Experience using best-in-class AI tooling to accelerate development.
  • Deep expertise in Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and Node.js.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture and design patterns with enterprise-scale experience.
  • Expertise with relational databases and SQL, including query optimization.
  • Expertise with NoSQL/document-oriented databases.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD tooling.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS).
  • Proven track record of leading software development teams and delivering production-grade software.
  • Excellent English communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and creative thinking under constraint.
