About the role

Linux Engineering internship focused on building and maintaining the firm’s infrastructure, with mentorship from full-time engineers. Projects span operating-system level work, kernel issues, performance tuning, diagnostics, and automation, culminating in real value for the firm while providing hands-on learning in Linux systems and software engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Work on a project closely mentored by full-time employees, delivering real value to the firm.
  • Investigate resilience of file system implementations at scale.
  • Automate collection of diagnostic information from early boot failures.
  • Design scalable systems for collecting fine-grained TCP diagnostic data.
  • Extend infrastructure provisioning and management systems to support new compute capacity.
  • Engage in real-time operational work alongside experienced engineers to resolve production issues and perform root-cause analyses.

Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable about operating system fundamentals and computer architecture
  • Experienced with systems programming concepts like sockets, virtual memory, and the process life cycle
  • Able to understand network protocols at a basic level
  • Comfortable at the command-line of a Linux machine
  • Fluent with introspection and troubleshooting common Linux system aspects (system health, processes, logs)
  • Problem-solving mindset with coding ability in any language and commitment to robust software engineering
  • Intellectually curious, collaborative, eager to learn
  • Humble and unafraid to ask questions
  • Strong communication skills
  • Fluent in English
