About the role

Network Security Engineer role at Cloudflare focused on resolving complex network security issues for enterprise customers, including DDoS mitigation, firewall configuration, and WAF/Spectrum usage across OSI layers 3–7. Hybrid in Singapore or Tokyo location.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor for enterprise customers, responding to and resolving inquiries and incidents related to network security and performance, delivering timely, high-quality and personalized assistance.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues involving DDoS mitigation, firewall rules, SSL/TLS, network confirmation, and other security configurations.
  • Create and maintain knowledge base articles, technical guides, and troubleshooting documentation for internal and customer use.
  • Compare traffic signatures and attributes to distinguish good vs. malicious traffic.
  • DDoS mitigation for OSI layers 3, 4, & 7: advise customers on filtering malicious traffic using Cloudflare tools like Magic Transit, Network Firewall, WAF, IP reputation lists, packet inspection, blocklisting, allowlisting, and rate limiting.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to improve products and tools.
  • Utilize generative AI and automation tools to streamline log analysis, accelerate root-cause analysis during security incidents, and optimize customer response times.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in Network Security Engineering, Technical Support, or related roles.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; ability to simplify complex concepts for customers.
  • Strong customer service orientation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, BGP; knowledge of anycast routing concepts; experience with iptables and looking glass.
  • Experience troubleshooting network connectivity, BGP routing, GRE tunnels, and packet capture analysis.
  • Proficiency with command-line tools (curl, dig, traceroute, openssl, git).
  • Experience installing and configuring web servers (Apache, Nginx, Caddy, IIS).
  • Programming/scripting ability (Bash, Python, JavaScript or similar).
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL or other databases.
  • Bachelor’s degree in CS, Cybersecurity, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Relevant certifications (CISSP, GCIA, GCIH, GCFA, GCFE or equivalent).
