About the role

Chief Technology Officer to lead the combined Artsy and Artnet engineering organization through growth and AI-driven transformation, owning engineering, infrastructure, and technical architecture across a hybrid, multi-location setup (New York or London preferred; East Coast remote acceptable).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the adoption of AI-augmented development workflows across the engineering organization
  • Mentor engineers, product managers, designers, and business operators in AI fluency across the org
  • Build on modern tooling, agile practices, and continuous delivery to foster experimentation and rapid shipping
  • Establish the org as an industry reference for AI and product development at scale
  • Assess durable competitive advantages and AI disruption risks; develop a technical strategy for AI-enabled, agentic user interactions
  • Identify underinvested areas (data, infrastructure, APIs, capabilities) and roadmap enhancements
  • Ensure modular, adaptable architecture that evolves with business and tech landscape
  • Unify two legacy platforms into a coherent, modern architecture for multiple brands and customer segments
  • Make high-conviction consolidation and retirement decisions during post-merger integration
  • Integrate engineers from both organizations into mission-driven teams
  • Own security and infrastructure posture amid AI-related risk
  • Scout emerging capabilities and inform product strategy with technical feasibility
  • Contribute to product roadmap with data-driven, marketplace-aware perspectives on discovery, pricing, transactions, and logistics

Qualifications

  • Led engineering organizations through significant change (post-acquisition integration, rapid scaling, or retooling)
  • Hands-on experience integrating AI into engineering workflows; strong technical architecture judgment
  • Bias toward speed; ability to set aggressive tempo and drive shipping as the default
  • Sense of urgency and accountability in decisions and project delivery
  • Ability to connect engineering investments to business outcomes (revenue, margin, growth)
  • Strong focus on security and infrastructure amidst AI-driven risk
  • Location flexibility: New York or London; or East Coast Remote
  • Nice to have: experience with two-sided marketplace platforms (B2B/B2C), familiarity with art world/luxury/cultural sectors, background as technical cofounder or early-stage CTO
