About the role
Data Science Pod Lead to lead the physics-based sensing pod, delivering production-ready physics-based algorithms from novel sensor data while growing a team of data scientists. Hybrid role with ~70% individual contribution and ~30% people leadership, collaborating with hardware, optics, clinical scientists and clinicians.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead a high-performing pod of data scientists, providing line management, mentorship, regular feedback and career development support.
- Develop, verify, validate and deploy physics-based algorithms for clinical measurement, contributing to new product capabilities or research breakthroughs.
- Set and uphold technical standards, code quality and best practices within the pod, delivering production-quality code integrated into backend infrastructure.
- Collaborate with optical and hardware engineers, firmware engineers, software engineers, medical doctors and clinical researchers to validate sensor behaviour and support regulatory readiness of algorithms.
- Contribute to the Data Science leadership team, shaping area-wide strategy, tooling and ways of working.
Qualifications
- MSc or PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or relevant Physics-based commercial experience, with 5+ years in a senior/lead role.
- People leadership experience (line management, team lead or equivalent).
- Track record of shipping algorithms to production.
- Deep knowledge of physics-based modelling and simulation, sensor data, signal processing or measurement techniques (e.g., laser speckle, doppler, OCT, interferometry, spectroscopy).
- Strong software engineering skills (production-level coding, version control, testing, backend integration) and ability to leverage AI tooling while owning the results.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with comfort operating under uncertainty and driving clarity in ambiguity.
