About the role

Senior IT Platform Engineer at Beast Industries, responsible for identity and application lifecycle across the Beast family of companies, focusing on Okta-native identity, SSO/SCIM integrations, and managing a dual-instance architecture for regulated fintech systems. On-site in San Mateo, CA (Step) ~4 days/week, reporting to the Director of IT.

Responsibilities

  • Run the user lifecycle end to end. Design and operate automated joiner, mover, and leaver flows driven by HRIS events across multiple payroll and HR platforms.
  • Drive the application lifecycle. Onboard, integrate, maintain, and decommission apps across hundreds of SaaS applications with SSO/SCIM coverage.
  • Engineer identity automation. Manage groups, group rules, sign-on and authentication policies, and automation within dual-instance architecture isolating regulated fintech systems.
  • Run point for Step. Scope new integrations, maintain production integrations, and troubleshoot between Step and Beast stacks.
  • Document like an engineer. Maintain runbooks, architecture diagrams, and knowledge base articles.
  • Own the San Mateo queue. Triage, resolve, and escalate against SLAs in Serval (Slack-native ITSM).
  • Run the site. Ensure desks, device provisioning, inventory management.
  • Keep the rooms working. AV systems for meetings and events.
  • Take care of the people. User support and onboarding, helping users with tools.
  • Be the face of IT for the West Coast. On-site escalation point and executive/event support.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in IT systems, identity, or infrastructure engineering with deep hands-on Okta administration (Groups, policies, SSO/SAML, SCIM, lifecycle management).
  • Proven automation in Okta Workflows or equivalent (e.g., Tines, Serval).
  • Strong scripting and API skills in Python, PowerShell, or JavaScript for bulk operations and integrations.
  • Federation fluency with SaaS apps via SAML, OIDC/OAuth, and SCIM.
  • HRIS-driven provisioning experience with real joiner/mover/leaver automation in production.
  • DevOps discipline (version control, CI/CD, infrastructure as code) and cloud platforms (AWS and/or GCP).
  • Endpoint awareness (MDM such as Intune, FleetDM preferred) and device trust.
  • AV fluency with conference room systems (Zoom Rooms, Logitech Rally Bar).
  • Customer-service mindset with ability to support executives and handle incidents.
  • Comfort in a regulated, multi-entity environment.
  • Experience using AI tooling for IT work (e.g., Claude, GenSpark).
