About the role

Software Engineers who design and build the systems and tools that run Jane Street, applying functional programming with OCaml as a primary tool and Python for data analysis, visualization, and machine learning. Open to engineers with any language background and a focus on solving interesting problems across trading desks, accounting, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build systems and tools that run the firm
  • Solve problems across trading desks, accounting, and infrastructure
  • Develop foundational infrastructure (e.g., network monitoring, risk models)
  • Contribute to open source projects and internal tooling
  • Collaborate across teams to implement robust software solutions

Qualifications

  • Top-notch programmer with a love for technology
  • Intellectually curious, collaborative, and eager to learn
  • Humble and comfortable asking questions and admitting mistakes
  • Fluent in English
  • No required background in functional programming, OCaml, Python, or finance; strong learning ability preferred
