Linux Engineering internship focused on learning how Jane Street builds and maintains its critical infrastructure, working closely with full-time engineers on real-world projects across OS, kernel, networking, and automation, with mentor-led guidance and hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work on a project mentored by full-time engineers, delivering real value to the firm.
  • Collaborate with production infrastructure teams to resolve issues in the launch and operation of systems.
  • Assist with root-cause analyses and improvements to monitoring, diagnostics, and automation.

Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable about operating system fundamentals and computer architecture
  • Experienced with systems programming concepts like sockets, virtual memory, and the process life cycle
  • Able to understand network protocols at a basic level
  • Comfortable at the command-line of a Linux machine
  • Fluent with introspection and troubleshooting common Linux system aspects (health, processes, logs)
  • Problem solving through coding (any language) with strong software engineering mindset
  • Intellectually curious, collaborative, eager to learn, humble, and good communicator
  • Fluent in English
